# How can I change my status from permanent resident to permanent resident commuter? (I-90)

## Make a special request using I-90.

The USCIS does not assign commuter status automatically, individuals who wish to fall under commuter status must make a special request for it with the U.S. immigration authorities. Those individuals who wish to change their status can do so using Form I-90.
