# Can I file Form I-90 if I have previously abandoned my permanent resident status?

The USCIS requires a person currently granted permission to live in the United States as a Lawful Permanent Resident to file Form I-90 to renew or replace their green card. For individuals who the U.S. government considers to have "Abandoned" their Permanent Resident status they are required to begin the process to become a permanent resident anew and apply through the usual application process to get their green card.
